something i like - Yew Street Food Hall

Last month I took the fam plus one extra kid over to the North Shore on a Saturday.  We visited the Kamloops Winter Farmers Market and then to Yew Street Food Hall for lunch.

Like an upscale food court, the hall offers small stalls for local restaurants and chefs to rent and offer their delicious food treats to us lucky folk.

The space is lovely and inviting, and you just don't know what to look at first.

The Boy and his friend headed off to check out all the offerings.  The Girl quickly chose Smashville Burger Bar  and had a really REALLY excellent burger and fries.  This will be my first stop next visit.

The 2 Boys went with TongDak Korean Chicken, and then took their food to a different table so I could not get a photo or sneak a bite.  Rude.

The Mister and I got non-alcoholic cocktails, a delicious virgin ceasar and a virgin margarita from Brews on Yew.  SO GOOD.

The Mister and I chose  Lemongrass and shared a Grilled Chicken Bahn Mi and Grilled Pork, spring rolls and vermicelli.  Truly excellent.

This is the kind of thing we need more of in Kamloops - go check it out!

yam tacos at senior froggy's

i love yams, i love tacos, so when i saw the yam taco special, i had to try it.  2 tacos filled with lightly breaded deep fried yams, cabbage, onions, tomato, and a sweet and spicy chipolte sauce.  delicious.

donair dude

Donair Dude opened up this fall in downtown Kamloops.  I visited them 3 times in November.  I am a fan.

The store is larger than it appears from outside, and is bright and cheerful.  The staff are all lovely.

If you are getting your food to go, which I have each time, they seal it shut for you.  So yes my picture might not look the most appetizing, but believe me, it's delicious.  All 3 times I got the same thing - the small plate with falafel, which comes with rice and potatos and 2 sauces.  the last 2 times i added tabbouleh.

If you are downtown, check them out!

something i like - Brynn's Bakery

Now that I am back downtown for work now (sob), occasionally I venture out for a walk and recently made my first visit to Brynn's Bakery on Victoria Street.  It is teeny tiny and full of delicious smells.

Brynn's started as a stand in the weekly farmers market and now excitingly has their own storefront.

They have squares and sweet buns and cookies and brownies and breads - the bread are on rotation, but the basic sourdough is always available.

My first visit I picked up a loaf of the sourdough for The Mister and as a treat, I picked up 2 jeweled brownies for me and my bestie at work.

The brownies are pretty big, so I figured I'd have a couple of bites and take the rest home to the fam.

I ate that whole brownie and wished I had another.  Dang.

A couple of weeks later I took The Mister and The Girl there, and while The Girl picked out 2 cookies for herself and her brother - one delicious chocolate chip and one hearty and flavorful peanut butter - I said to The Mister - oh look at these jeweled brownie!  I wonder if they are good? 😉

cheddar and bacon burger from Fork Lift Kitchen at Fresh Street Market

This beauty is the cheddar and bacon burger with crispy cheese.  Yum

This was our second visit there; we went shortly after they opened and did not have a great experience.  But time has healed wounds and The Mister and I picked up burgers after a grocery shop.  The kids wanted McDonalds, which we got for them, but The Boy definitely looked a bit envious.

a delicious dinner from Masala Fusion Meats

We finally got over to the North Shore to visit Masala Fusion Meats and it was as great as I'd hoped.  We picked up 3 kinds of chicken - Tandoori, Pudina Mint and Malai.  The very lovely staff assured us that the Mint and Malai were not spicy, but the Tandoori would have a kick.  We also picked up 2 butter chicken samosas for The Mister and I for a treat.

We grilled the chicken up for Sunday Dinner with The Grandpa, along with some veggies, a mint yogurt sauce, a tomato salad and some mini naans.

It was all AMAZING, although the Mint was a bit kicky, the Malai was just flavorful, and the Tandoori was just spicy enough to make you reach for your water glass.

I thought, in my humble opinion, that the 2 sauces went extremely well with all the flavors, and the naan and anything else you wanted to serve it with.  The tomato salad - Kachumbar -  from Made in India by Meera Sodha, and the mint yogurt sauce will become staples in my kitchen.

small photo dump

I'm not cooking anything interesting, I'm not reading hardly at all, we try not to drive anywhere unnecessary  because of the cost of gas.  I go for a daily walk but that's the extent of my self care.  I'm not drinking enough water - are my headaches stress related or from dehydration?  I get tired of saying this but holy crap, how quickly is this year going by???  The middle of JUNE already?

The Boy has become obsessed with bubble tea and after a few excursions with his friends, he took his sister and me for some.  I haven't had bubble tea in years and years.  It was pretty good.  Saw a sign in the mall that there is a bubble tea place opening there this summer.  Kamloops is always behind on the trends.

What IS this?  I am truly drawing a blank.  It looks just terrible.  I don't think we ate it.  Why can't I remember this?

A couple of walk photos I guess I felt were important, a rock, and a good bumper sticker outside the bubble tea place.

I made the mac and cheese and pulled pork from the Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook.  Very good and very easy.

We tried soup dumplings from Eastuff.  We did not like them.

I made these cauliflower and hallomi sandwiches from the Love and Lemons cookbook I borrowed from the library.. SO good.
